Interpretive Practices of Technology

Within technology, sophisticated and complex “high technology” which is represented by AI is being reduced to simple tools and being blackboxed. AI is an inevitable and unopposable piece of technology being increasingly treated as a changemaker. This project presents a body of work that is based on the idea that technology can be freely “interpreted” as a means of not relinquishing the responsibility for it and not despairing of it as being deterministic. We attempt to theorize it as “Interpretative Practices of Technology” based on bodies of works and the experiences of those who have experienced it. Additionally, for the etymology of the word “technology” / “techniques,” “techne” is based on a broad concept meaning “ars” (art) and crafts. We will reconsider the technologies of today’s situation through a particular lens based on modern technologies and machine technologies against former technological paradigms.

Research Plan

The presentation of the awareness of issues becomes the starting point and whilst all project members share their references, based on their individual interests and experiences, they are each individually able to participate in the research in their own various ways. As a crucial opportunity for that, the project is positioned for the exhibition “IAMAS ARTIST FILE #10”.?

  • Observation through the recreation of “artworks” according to cybernetizens
  • Planning and creation of a small scale exhibition thinking about the cybernetic paradigm
  • Careful reading and deepening of knowledge through literature relating to the philosophy of technology, the aesthetics of technology, and other related topics
  • Hosting a symposium, and other events which are connected to the IAMAS ARTIST FILE #10
